Duevel's Planets come into alignment
High-end loudspeakers arrive amidst a riot of outer space-orientated gags
It's almost traditional for loudspeakers to look as far out of whack as possible nowadays, be it the Fatman's bulbous bottomed Fatboy, Bang & Olufsen's sci-fi nightmare BeoLab 5 or these, the Duevel Planets, which frankly look madder than a bag of ferrets.
That scaffolding mounted on a big ol' main unit isn't just there to make these floorstanders look odd however. They're omni-directional thanks to the "reflective spheres" making the most of the five-inch subwoofer with one-inch horn tweeter and have received rave reviews across the pond for their room-filing sound, transparency and ability to make two-channel sound "orbit around the room".
Smaller than they look, the Planets range is actually Duevel's entry-level loudspeaker offering, costing a none-too-terrifying $1,300 per pair - around £650 in proper money.
They come in black, white, silver, red and blue too, just in case the design isn't quite novelty enough for you - go for the rouge pair and you can legitimately tell people you have the Red Planet either side of your telly, which would practically turn you into the next Patrick Moore, minus the monocle and incomprehensible chat, of course.
