Panasonic reveals DMP-BD35 and DMP-BD55 - two ultra-skinny Blu-ray players (IFA 2008)
With BD Live and 7.1ch audio
Panasonic would like to remind you that not every Blu-ray player in this world is a hulking black monolith that plays games. Some are slender and graceful and don't want anything to do with that gaming nonsense, such as these two new BD35 and BD55 players. Thanks to the 45nm UniPher chip, these players stand just 49 and 55mm tall respectively
Panny's latest are offering the most up to date Blu-ray standard, Blu-ray 2.0 - aka Blu-ray Live. This means they can connect the net to unlock various web-enabled features, download content and quizzes and possibly even chat with other Blu-ray owners.
Each offers 7.1 channel audio output over HDMI and the BD55 also offers it a 7.1ch analogue output - handy if you're hooking up to a decent but aging amp.
Other features include Panny's PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus image-processing, an SD card slot and 20 watt power consumption, which keeps the planet safe from environmental disaster while you veg out in front of the latest season of Heroes. If you also own a VIERA HDTV, then you can use the same controls for both devices.
